Factors Affecting Cambial Growth Periodicity and Wood Formation in Tropical Forest Trees: A Review

چکیده

A review of papers related to cambium activity and wood formation in tropical subtropical trees their response climate South America, Africa, Southwest Asia, Southeast Asia reveals a complex picture the factors that influence tree growth formation. One key finding is while temperature rainfall are essential drivers regions, specific effects these can vary widely depending on local conditions. For example, some areas, increased may lead higher rates formation, others, it have little effect or even be detrimental growth. Another species exhibit different patterns, within same region. These observations highlight need for careful species-level studies understand influencing regions fully. Some also found extreme events, such as droughts floods, significantly impact regions. events density changes long-term forest structure composition. Overall, this suggests much still learned about interactions between climate, soil, other environmental Continued research monitoring efforts will understanding important ecosystems developing effective conservation management strategies.

Decelerating growth in tropical forest trees.

The impacts of global change on tropical forests remain poorly understood. We examined changes in tree growth rates over the past two decades for all species occurring in large (50-ha) forest dynamics plots in Panama and Malaysia. Stem growth rates declined significantly at both forests regardless of initial size or organizational level (species, community or stand). Decreasing growth rates wer...

Update on Wood Formation in Trees Wood Formation in Trees

Wood is the most important natural and endlessly renewable source of energy and therefore has a major future role as an environmentally cost-effective alternative to burning fossils fuels. The major role of wood is not only the provision of energy but also the provision of energy-sufficient material for our buildings and many other products. In addition, developing wood cells represent one of t...

Constraints on physiological function associated with branch architecture and wood density in tropical forest trees.

This study examined how leaf and stem functional traits related to gas exchange and water balance scale with two potential proxies for tree hydraulic architecture: the leaf area:sapwood area ratio (A(L):A(S)) and wood density (rho(w)). We studied the upper crowns of individuals of 15 tropical forest tree species at two sites in Panama with contrasting moisture regimes and forest types. Transpir...

Wood CO2 efflux in a primary tropical rain forest

The balance between photosynthesis and plant respiration in tropical forests may substantially affect the global carbon cycle. Woody tissue CO2 efflux is a major component of total plant respiration, but estimates of ecosystem-scale rates are uncertain because of poor sampling in the upper canopy and across landscapes. To overcome these problems, we used a portable scaffolding tower to measure ...
